Shad Alberty Scholarship
The $1000.00 Shad Alberty Memorial Scholarship is given annually to a high school senior or currently enrolled college student to help fund their education.Anyone wishing to apply must write an essay on a subject chosen by the event directors. The scholarship is awarded during the Shad Alberty Memorial Winter Classic in January each year.
The essay topic for 2011 is:
"What the Shag Means to Me?"
High school seniors and graduates furthering their education are elliglble. Essays should be around 1000 words and emailed to Sam and Lisa West by Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 by email to lisaswing@aol.com.

Beth Mitchell Memorial Scholarship
In memory of our 1998 National Non-Pro Champion, the National Shag Dance Championship Board of Directors has establish the Beth Mitchell Memorial Scholarship to assist in the education of worthy college students who have competed in the Nationals. Accounting and legal fees are paid by the N.S.D.S. No fund monies are involved.
Our fundraising goal is to acquire adequate principle, allowing the interest accrued to fund each annual scholarship. Contributions are welcome from shag clubs, businesses, families and individuals.
The N.S.D.C. has purchased a plaque for display that lists the benefactors ($1000.00+), Patrons ($500.00-$999.00), and "Beth's Angels" ($100.00-$499.00). The scholarship committee includes Beth's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Worth Mitchell; two N.S.D.C. Board members; one appointee by Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell and one appointee by the N.S.D.C. Board members. The first seven recipients of this scholarship have been awarded a total of $27,500.00.
We encourage you to contribute today to this lasting memorial for a true shag angel. Please become a part of this worthy endeavor.
